Advantage England, if you believe the World Cup statistics [Video]

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

I headed to Cape Town via a direct flight from London Heathrow together with 14 winners from Germany, Finland, Poland, Sweden and Denmark and with no time-difference and a nightly flight of 12 hours we landed feeling quite fresh on Sunday. I have done this trip once before and it is very special to be back now that the World Cup is here.

In Cape Town we have been surrounded by the vuvuzela’s and Portuguese supporters who were dancing on the streets after their heroes beat North Korea 7-0. We were lucky to be there and couldn’t believe our eyes when the goal blitz started in the second half with even Ronaldo scoring. Remember this is goal-shy Portugal, where Ronaldo scored for the first time since Euro 2008 in the national team, but stats are there to be beaten if you have the odds against you and we can expect some thundering last days of the group phase.

In England, the nation expects a win against Slovenia but they did so also against USA and Algeria and we all remember how that ended. England has looked for answers and explanations and can maybe find some comfort in these stats ahead of the crunch game against Slovenia: Since 1982 England have won 62% of all World Cup games shown on the BBC against 30% when shown on ITV. Wow. That tells you something, since England vs Slovenia will be shown on BBC. So go on and bet on England. With the Beeb behind them they cannot fail. We should trust the stats you know. Now I will continue to practice on my vuvuzela. Getting there.

World Cup 2010, Germany vs Serbia, England vs Algeria, Slovenia vs USA [Video]

Friday, June 18th, 2010

England are looking to bounce back after the 1-1 draw with USA and they are massive favorites against Algeria. Will Peter Crouch start the game? Jonathan Deeley thinks so.

USA meanwhile is favorites against Slovenia in a massive encounter – if Slovenia wins, they are through.

Germany thrashed Australia 4-0 in their first match and are now clashing with Serbia that needs a result after loosing 1-0 against Ghana.

Today’s matches Friday 18th June:

13.30 Germany vs Serbia

16.00 Slovenia vs USA

20.30 England vs Algeria

World Cup 2010, South Korea vs Greece, England vs USA and Argentina vs Nigeria [Video]

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Richie Sheridan states rule number one during the World Cup: Don’t get married! Get all your things done in time, but if you still have gardening works to do, make sure to do it when South Korea plays Greece. Richie says it will be the dullest match of the tournament.

The odds are obviously in favor to England when they face USA, question is what the score will be and if Wayne Rooney manage to keep his mouth shut.

Argentina comes armed with former super star striker Diego Armando Maradonna. We all know what he did for Argentina as a striker in Mexico ’86 – but can he coach?

Matches Saturday 12th June:

13.30  South Korea – Greece

16:00 Argentina – Nigeria

20.30 England – USA

For all our blog readers, post a comment with your prediction for the correct score for England – USA. The first correct posted prediction will be rewarded with €5 on his Expekt.com account.
