The Royal Blues take on the Red Devils

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Schalke, the surprise team of the year, are up against the Man Utd in tonight’s clash at the Veltin’s Arena. The home side have knocked out Valencia and Inter Milano in the knock-out phase and now take on Sir Alex’s boys. Will they have any chance to cause yet another upset? Well, for starters Man Utd are rightly priced as favourites in this encounter. Although they have only won one out of their last three games they are a team in good shape. Rooney has found his long-lost form and Javier Hernandez, “el chicarito” is getting better for each game he plays. In addition to this you have to acknowledge United’s massive experience in European cup games. The manager and the players are highly skilled when it comes to the tactical part of the game which is more important in cup games then in regular league matches. Last but not least, United’s home form must be mentioned. Usually it’s hard coming to Old Trafford, but this season it’s been beyond hard. The Red Devils have made their home ground into a stronghold which seems almost impossible to conquer.

This having said, Schalke are clearly underdogs but not without chance. Man Utd have struggled big time against German teams and Schalke can play in a very high level on a good day. They have some “point players” in Raul, Edu and Farfan, they have a coach who is a great motivator and surely knows how to set up his team in front of these big games, and they will be massively supported by their supporters tonight. The people of Gelsenkirchen live and breathe football, so tonight’s game will be a highlight for all the supporters of the Royal Blues.
